LIVE COVERAGE OF ELECTION NIGHT
Live Coverage of Election Night is the longest-running program in GHS-TV history, with its original broadcast dating back to 1983. Designed to provide up-to-date election results and educate teens and young adults on the importance of elections and voting, this year’s program delivered comprehensive coverage of one of the most critical election nights in recent history.
In addition to the high-stakes presidential race, Election Night 2024 included in-depth analysis of Senate and House of Representatives contests, as well as several important local races that directly impact Memphis and Germantown residents. The show emphasized the significance of local elections, offering Memphians a clear view of both state and national developments while focusing on hotly contested races in the community.
Anchored by two talented GHS students and moderated by a student host who led discussions on the presidential race, the two-hour live program featured expert insights from notable guests, including Democratic and Republican candidates for Tennessee’s House of Representatives, the newly elected Memphis Mayor, and a professor from the University of Memphis.
The production was a masterclass in live television, with dozens of students managing technical operations, including up-to-the-minute election returns displayed via character generators. Rigorous preparation, including daily crew meetings and camera-blocking rehearsals, ensured the program’s success.
Election Night 2024 showcased the extraordinary dedication, professionalism, and skill of Germantown High School students, who scripted, shot, edited, directed, hosted, and produced the show. Streamed live on ghstv.org, the program not only informed the community about a critical event but also demonstrated the exceptional capabilities of GHS-TV’s student team.
